SL: Larry Summers, “Phase 4” Corona Relief, and a new level of Trump idiocy
SSL: are U faded?
Good morning everyone! I’ve got no time for jokes these days! Let’s fuckin’ go!
Larry Summers is advising Biden: and in a time where Biden’s camp should be trying to win over more progressive voters, that’s a real awful pick.
The Squad is pressuring House leadership for “Phase 4” coronavirus relief: and they’re hoping it’s far more ambitious than we’ve seen thus far.
Trump thinks light and injecting ourselves with disinfectant will save us from COVID-19: lol.
Get motivated! Or not! You could also just lay around and suffer!
ELECTION 2020
Larry Summers is Advising Joe Biden on Economic Policy

Larry Summers has quite the resume. He’s a veteran of both the Obama and Clinton administrations, ending up as Clinton’s Treasury Secretary and Obama’s director of the National Economic Council. Summers was one of the architects of the economic response put forth by the Obama administration back in 2009. Now that we’re entering a similar phase of economic downturn, Summers is a controversial pick to have any say in economic policy.
A Summers Retrospective
Summers was seen as lowballing Americans on what levels of economic stimulus was necessary. He also helped rescue and bailout the big banks—instead of proposals put forth by progressives, like demanding equity or just letting them fail. Some have argued that his insistence of financial deregulation under Clinton, including repealing Glass-Steagal, is a big part of what got us into the 2008 crash in the first place.
That reputation earned him the top spot on Robert Kuttner’s “Biden Do Not Reappoint List.” Many progressives find him deplorable.
Then again, this is Joe “Nothing Will Fundamentally Change” Biden we’re talking about. Picking Summers could reassure Wall Street that Biden isn’t getting too radical, keeping his establishment support completely intact.
Don’t Rely on Ghouls
We’ll be honest: we think Summers’ record is disastrous.
Pick one of the 20 pro-Medicare for All top economists to help you. Pick Stephanie Kelton!
Biden, if elected, will face an economy that will look unlike anything we’ve ever seen. We need forward thinkers here, not people who caused the last huge recession with deregulatory practices 30 years ago.
Bottom line: Summers may make Wall Street feel comfortable, but it makes us feel like no matter what happens in November, 2021 is going to suck real bad.

The Squad Are Pushing Leadership For a Clear Timeline and More Ambitious “Phase 4” COVID-19 Relief Package

The Squad are four progressive members of Congress, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and the always undersung hero Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Despite being four freshmen Congresswomen, they’ve somehow managed to work their ways into the mainstream consciousness and seem to influence many big conversations. This includes where we go next with COVID-19 relief.
The Squad’s Plan
Let’s take a look at what is being asked.
Some of their wants for the next wave of COVID-19 relief: additional aid to cities and states, more food stamp assistance, nationwide renter protections against evictions, and including undocumented immigrants in any new benefits.
They’re also asking that House members are given a timeline on when they should expect to see a “Phase 4” bill before they return to their districts after voting on Thursday.
Pelosi’s office is insistent that the Democratic-controlled House will pass its own relief bill first in the next round of Congressional lawmaking; however, Pelosi’s office has declined to give a concrete timeline for such a vote.
Bottom line: it’d be naive to think that the Squad will ultimately end up with everything they’re asking for. That said, they all seem like good, decent things to ask for, so more Democrats should get on board and should take every opportunity to shout that platform from the rooftops.
TRUMPOCALYPSE
Trump Thinks Injecting Yourself With Bleach Could Treat Coronavirus

Look, I’ll be honest here. My internet shut down for a large part of today and once I got back at it, I couldn’t really give this story my all. It’s important, it needs to be said, but goddamn is it just so unbelievably stupid.
William Bryan of the DHS said that heat and humidity can suppress COVID-19 and that commonly available disinfectants can kill the virus at Donald Trump’s Thursday White House press briefing.
Trump then says we could hit the body with a “tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light...and then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you’re gonna test that.”
He went on to say that he sees “disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute—one minute—and is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.”
Bottom line: uh, what the fuck? Reading that kinda made me want to drink bleach, so, mission accomplished I guess.
